Local Flavor: Microscoping!
On Sunday the kids and I hunted for things to look at under the microscope. Here are some from around our yard and woods. We have way too many samples to look at, of course! Above are two tiny wild grapes -- can you spot the tiniest spider on one of them?
Oona knocked some moss off a rock while climbing it -- here's what it looks like from the side.
Here's a critter-eaten acorn.
Here's the back of white birch bark...
...and the front!
I don't know what this plant is, but it's on a short, purple-ish stem and has a cluster of bright red-orange berries. They grow up in the woods like crazy. This one had been trampled so we grabbed it.
Here's some stone from the river.
