1920s German-made 4/4 Violin

This fiddle is a customer's instrument and I rather like it. Work included regluing seams, replacing fine tuners, making a bridge, leveling/dressing the ebonized-maple fingerboard, and setting it up (as well as setting the soundpost) with a set of new strings (the owner supplied John Pearse steel-core ones).

It has a good, even tone and pretty decent volume. The neck is quick and the narrow-ish, steeply-radiused nut gives it a fast feel.

The label inside just states that this is a "Strad" copy made in Germany, but it has more of a Guarnerius cut to the top.

The pegs are well-fit.

I like the strange, '70s-tinted, "dark walnut" color of the finish.
