Workshop: '60s Gibson Bridge Woes
I like '60s Gibson acoustics, but they share the same pattern of bridges that aren't really glued to their tops. I find that when they were made, there was a lot of hope pinned on the two bolts that these bridges have for holding things together, because Gibson often "glued" the bridges over finish that'd been sprayed on the top.
In the photo above, you can see where I've penciled-in the outline of the bridge to be reglued and how I've started to chip-away and remove the finish back down to bare wood so the reglue job does something.
