2010s Ohana SK-21 Short Scale Ukulele

Ohana designed this uke to be a short-scale soprano (with a 12" scale, much like early Gibson banjo ukes) tuned to GCEA as-normal. I originally strung this up as a "sopranino" uke with a higher tuning, but restrung when I changed the tuners and now it's at GCEA-normal. It does sound great tuned up to ADF#B with the same strings, though.

These have a chipper, direct, chimey voice that's nice for strumming and a fingerpicking chords. I wouldn't want to have to play any lead/chord melody work on it, though, because the scale is so short that I run out of room to move! For a smaller person, though, that would be a non-issue and maybe even a big benefit.

Repairs included: a bridge reglue, hidden pinholes drilled to allow string-through-top stringing if desired, new GraphTech Tune-A-Lele 4:1 geared pegs, and a minor setup and cleaning. It plays with 1/16" action at the 12th fret and has a straight neck.

4:1 geared pegs make a huge difference in wanting to pick the uke up and play it -- I have no ukes in the house with friction pegs anymore. This came with friction pegs originall but as soon as I brought it into the house to play I swapped them out for these geared fellas. I hate fussing with friction pegs.
