2020 Fender Jazzmaster Partscaster Electric Guitar

A local customer put this guitar together. At its heart is a fancy roasted maple/pau ferro (I think) Fender Stratocaster neck (made in Mexico) mated to what's probably a "Player Jazzmaster" body as it has the forward-shifted whammy location which puts more down-pressure on the saddle from the tail. The work on the guitar (putting it together) was good and it has high-quality components, but the final setup needed going-through and it had some minor finishing touches that needed to be done.

I did that stuff and now it's playing like a champ -- fast, easy, and with authority. Notes snap right off the neck and its tone is pure and clean. The pickups are paired nicely and give a good variety of tones. The neck pickup is a StewMac "Golden Age" Alnico 5 neck humbucker with a warm, relaxed, clean sound to it. The bridge is a Seymour Duncan TB-4 trembucker and it's a perfect mix with the neck pickup as it's clean, clear, articulate, and has lots of punch and plenty of output to drive lead work.

The hardware is nice, too. It has a heavier-duty tailpiece/whammy with the "save" button intact. The tuners are staggered-posts but I added string trees anyway (of the low-friction sort) because Fenders always sound better with extra pressure at the nut. It clears-up a lot of "ghostly" harmonics and resonances that sound bad in partser builds.

Inside, all of the electronics are very nice -- CTS full-size pots, a good cap, and Switchcraft side-mount 3-way control with a Switchcraft jack. The harness is very simple, too, with just a 3-way and master volume and tone controls.

The neck itself has jumbo frets (narrower but taller) and a vintage-style radius and nut width. It's quick and easy and has a shallower depth than true vintage necks, but a good feel. You can tell I'm enjoying it in the video, no?

Repairs included: setup, minor adjustments, added pickup surrounds, added string trees, etc...
