2007 Seagull (Godin) Maritime Mini-Jumbo Guitar

Update: since posting this in March, this guitar was purchased and had a K&K Pure Mini pickup installed (~$107 in value these days) and it sounds great plugged-in. The buyer traded it back in, though, because he hopped on another guitar of mine so I let him trade this toward it.

I used to have a major crush on this particular model around 2004 after I played one at a jam in the UK. I still like the model a lot (I mean -- J-185 outline, folks! ...that cool Seagull headstock!) but my taste in necks has changed completely over the years and the wide nut of Godin products does not suit my style of play. It does suit tons of other players, though, so I think we can all rejoice that the gods allow many different types of guitars to exist.

This particular guitar is really very clean for its age and both sounds and looks great. I just had to give it a glorified setup to bring it back into the perfectly-playing fold, too.

This model has the pretty gloss finish with a solid spruce top over solid mahogany back and sides. The bridge and fretboard are rosewood and the neck is mahogany, too. It's got a good, robust, throaty sound with a nice round warmth that's not at all muddy or woofy. I think these sound best played by folks with a heavy attack or lots of "push" with the fingerpicking.

As usual for a Seagull, the build is rugged and functional and to the point and it's easy on the eyes. I know some folks aren't into the narrow headstock shape on Seagulls, but I really like it because it's a lot easier to avoid bumps and scrapes and it keeps the string path clean.

Repairs included: a fret level/dress, neck-bolts tightening, and setup.
