1910s Francesco Viotoni 3/4 Violin

This is a solidly-built, great-sounding instrument for its 3/4 size. I imagine it's German-built and right around 1910-1920 or so. Some of these are seen at great cost around the net but I think this more of a mid-grade factory instrument. It certainly sounds and handles a lot better than "normal" for an import fiddle from the time, though, and has nice ebony fittings in the board and pegs.

It's also relatively clean for its age. Post-work setup is somewhere between "fiddle height" strings and "classical height" but leaning more towards fast/easy fiddling-style.

Repairs included: a restring, cleaning, and setup.

Top wood: solid spruce

Back & sides wood: solid flamed maple

Bridge: maple

Fingerboard: ebony

Neck wood: maple

String height: between "fiddle" and "classical" action
Strings: D'Addario Ascente

Neck shape: medium C

Neck relief: straight

Scale length: 12 1/8"

Nut width: 13/16"

Body length: 13 1/4"

Body width: 7 3/4"

Body depth: 1 1/2" + arching

Weight: 0 lbs 15 oz

Condition notes: it's in good order and looks nice and has only minor wear to the body, though the tuning pegs, bridge, tailpiece, and chinrest are likely all later additions/replacements. The nut is also a replacement and bone instead of ebony. The back of the neck has some "faux flame" paint/finish work on it.

It comes with: a funky old hard case.
