1968 Fender Jaguar Lefty (Modded) Electric Guitar
Mr. Mike Brown owns this factory-lefty Fender fella and it's a stupidly-good guitar. It has that big, sultry-sounding Jaguar vibe that you only get from real-deal oldies as far as I'm concerned.
It's got a '68 neck stamp and the history is murky on it but all of the wiring, the whammy, and the neck pickup, pickguard, and control plates appear to be original. The bridge pickup has its original covers but is a Duncan Quarter-Pounder replacement. It has some recent Sperzel tuners fit at the headstock which work great but are hilarious to see on a vintage Fender. The neck finish is original and proper but the body finish is the questionable bit.
It looks like it has an "original" (by which I mean: from around when it was made and perhaps done as a custom-order job) psychedelic paintjob reminiscent of motorcycle or body-shop work that was sprayed-on. The blues, deep oranges, yellows, and greens (on the back) in the amoeba shapes appear to be the "original" custom work and it has nicely-checked clearcoat finish sprayed over it. To this has been added paint-pen-style stuff (the "love" on the front and the brutal bits on the back) that's detracted from the free-and-easy vibe.
Anyhow, it needed a bit of work to make it spot-on -- a fret level/dress (thankfully, someone had done an ok refret job on it at some point), some wiring repair, and setup stuff. It had a Mastery bridge installed (thankee gods) but Mike plays with a wound G (like a Jaguar deserves) and I had to adjust the B-string compensation by grinding away the contact point on the saddle just a bit to suit that stringing. Now that it's done-up it plays a treat.
