1981 Guild D-70 Dreadnought Guitar

How about them apples? Guild didn't make a lot of D-70s and they were confined to the early-'80s for production. It's basically a fancy-pants D-50 model as it's a solid spruce over solid rosewood dreadnought guitar with a traditional-style, flat back. Its trim level has exploded upward, however, and it has big old pearl inlays in the board, an ebony fretboard and bridge, pearl-ringed rosette, pearl in the headstock, and maple (rather than plastic) binding throughout.

Tonewise, it does that punchy, forward-facing, Guild thing but it's tempered with some D-28-style warmth and fullness. It's a "rowdy" guitar under the flatpick -- loud and forceful and very present.

Post-repairs it plays spot-on and is ready to serve.

Repairs included: a neck reset, bridge reglue, new bone saddle, fret level/dress, much cleaning, and setup.

Condition notes: overall, this guitar is in great shape. It does have some finish flaws -- plenty of weather-checking throughout, some nicking and chipping to the clearcoat along the seams, and plenty of mild-medium scratches here and there. Still, it looks great. There's a hairline crack (repaired) on the upper bout above the pickguard but it's good to go and that's it for cracks. There's some finish disturbance around the bridge area from a previous, not-great glue job.

FINAL NOTE: the guitar does have a very mild "basement" smell if you're sniffing hard in the soundhole. It does not bother me or anyone who's played it in the shop, but I am aware that there are many folks out in the world who can't handle this sort of thing.

It comes with: an old hard case, also with "old case" smell. It's good on the inside, latches all work, etc. but the outside has tolex tears, bumps, and scrapes all over.
