1969 Guild F212 Jumbo 12-String Guitar
I might just be a little bit of a fanboy for '60s Guild 12-strings. This one, in particular, sounds like a champ. It's lush and full but also very balanced and easy to get complicated sounds out of without them getting indistinct or muddied.
This is a customer's guitar and it was here for the usual work -- it got a neck reset, fret level/dress, minor bridge modification, a replacement bone saddle with full compensation for each string, and various repairs to loose back braces and hairline cracks. Post-work it plays spot-on and has a quick, easy feel. I have it strung with 46w-10 gauges and have it tuned to EADGBE (standard). The owner also had me fit a K&K Twin Spot pickup in it before it went home, too.
This is one of those "off the chart" serial number Guilds from the transition times between the Hoboken factory and the Westerly factory. This one appears to be "all Hoboken" in build and it definitely sounds and handles as such.
Per the usual, it's got an x-braced, solid spruce top over solid mahogany back and sides. It has dual truss rods, a slightly-chunky D-shaped neck profile, and classy, restrained looks. It's hard not to like the look of the '60s Guild F212 body shape, too, compared to the later, more-rounded, true-jumbo look. This has more of a "000-plus-size" vibe.
