1890s German-Made 4/4 Unmarked Fancy-Trim Violin
Local fiddler, Dan, is a friend of the shop and this was his Grandpa's fiddle. It was in quite a rough state but our man Andy Lake got it up and running. It had all sorts of seam and crack repairs needing attention, a neck needing a reset, a fingerboard needing work -- I can't even remember what it all was but it was, basically, an entire rebuild.
Post-work it plays beautifully and has a good, husky, old-time sort-of voice to it. It adores double-stops.
It's probably German-made, though it's unmarked, and has some fancy inlay work on its rear in the style of instruments built in Markneukirchen from the late 1800s and early 1900s. It's even got double purfling around the edges.
