1920s Oscar Schmidt Stella 0-Size Floral Decal Guitar
This killer old country-blues box was made by Oscar Schmidt in the '20s. It features the distinctive Stella script at the headstock but it has some nice features that set it apart from the rank and file -- gold purfling, cream binding, that cool pearloid fretboard veneer, and lovely floral decals on the lower bout.
Work was mildly-grueling on this one as the braces were all detached when it arrived and the top had sunk over an inch in the middle. It did not want to become an instrument again. After much struggle with the bracing and seams, I was then able to get the neck reset, the frets leveled and dressed, the bridge modded, and the setup done.
As a result, it plays spot-on and is ready to serve. The body on this is solid birch, the neck is poplar, and it has a maple fretboard and bridge with veneer on the board. It's completely original throughout and features the cool, Stella-style tailpiece design. The pickguard hides part of the decals but it's also original.
