1979 Guild F-50 Jumbo Guitar

Overview: I've known this guitar (and its owner) for many years. I think I began watching over it a decade or more ago. In that time it's been a reliable, functional instrument but the owner's moved towards a similar guitar but with more curve to the fretboard just recently and so this has come in for resale. It's a sturdy, working-man's instrument and has an outsized, punchy voice and plenty of bling to keep the eyes on the prize.

Tone: It's punchy, full, and even. Notes pop right out and cut and it would make a great guitar for heavy-handed backup players or lead/melody-chaser types. I know that the owner got a lot of fingerpicking time in with this one, too. 

Feel: The neck has a slim to medium C shape and a flatter, 14" radius. It handles like something between a Martin-style feel and Gibson-style feel. Guilds with long scale like this guy always feel to me a little less springy than either of those brands and so make a good choice for "neck squeezer" players.

Interesting features: It's an upmarket guitar and as such you find upmarket inlay down the fretboard and multi-ply binding throughout. It's lived-in, however, and everything has a nice "aged presence" about it that welcomes you in to playing it. 

Repairs included: Over time I've given this guitar a neck reset (well, re-reset), a fret level/dress (twice), repaired a couple of hairline cracks (upper bout treble shoulder and right next to the fretboard extension), made and fit a replacement ebony bridge (the originals tend to crack at the saddle slot and along the pinholes), made a new bone saddle, fit new ebony pins, and set it up a few times. I also had to reglue the neck lamination on the back at one point as the seam was a little open. It's currently playing spot-on, has good saddle height left, and is ready to go.

Condition notes: There are a few tiny cracks in the fretboard binding. The pickguard shows a bunch of pickwear/wear and tear. There are small nicks, dings, and scratches throughout. The back of the neck is discolored and the clearcoat is worn and chipped-out here and there along its length. It looks pretty glorious, though. The finish has weather-checked some as well. There's a repaired crack on the upper bout treble shoulder (in the spruce of the top) and then a couple of hairline cracks (repaired) along the fretboard extension.
