2020s Fox Guitars Kalamazoo KG-14F "Tribute" 00-Size Guitar
Overview: In recent years, Fox Guitars must have bought the Kalamazoo name rights because they've been importing their own take on "tribute models" of these Gibson-made guitars of the '30s. This KG-14F model approximates the "real deal" but has x-bracing in place of ladder bracing, a truss rod, and decent tuners. It sounds a lot like a pretty good L-00 which is a good thing but it's not the same as the barky, ladder-braced KG-14s. The Waterloo WL-14 models with ladder bracing are much more accurate copies of those, in their own way. So is it a Kalamazoo? Well, sort-of! Is it Gibson-sounding? Well, sure!
Tone: It's got a punchy, midsy, woody sound just like an L-00. You can lean into it and it doesn't compress much so that's nice for a heavy-handed picker.
Feel: It handles like an L-00 but the neck is faster -- with a mild-medium C shape.
Interesting features: Aside from looking like a Kalamazoo KG-14, there's not much else to write about, here -- it's got a nicely-sprayed finish (and apparently nitro), solid red spruce top, and (reportedly) solid mahogany back and sides. The nut and saddle are bone.
Repairs included: It received a good setup and is ready to roll.
