1950 Gibson LG-2 00-Size Guitar

Overview: LG-2s are always popular these days and people ask if I have any at least a few times each week. This one is a local customer's guitar and he's still on the fence about whether he wants to keep it or sell it. It has all of the stuff you want to see from one of these -- a good, sharp sunburst, a comfy-but-full neck, and that dry, even sound. It's had some play but is certainly easy on the eyes.

Tone: It's got a dry, balanced, woody sound with emphasis on mids and upper-mids. This makes them easy to record and mix and they have a sound that doesn't overwhelm a singer's voice. If you like to hear all of your notes at relatively the same volume and response, it's hard to beat this sort of sound.

Feel: This one has the classic, medium-fuller C shape to the neck and the board averages-out to about a 12" radius.

Interesting features: While much is original on the guitar, the rectangular original bridge had been swapped for a modern, belly-up, Gibson-style bridge when it arrived. Ancel made the current nice Madagascar rosewood bridge (which apes a '50s/'60s look) which suits it a lot better. It also has the old, openback-style Kluson tuners.

Repairs included: I gave it a neck reset and reglued a few braces. Ancel fit and made the new bridge, reglued more bracing, gave it a level/dress job on the frets, a new bone saddle, and set it up. It's playing spot-on and is ready to go.

Condition notes: As mentioned, the bridge is a replacement. The buttons on the tuners might be replacements (older) as well. There are a couple of top cracks below the bridge that have been cleated and repaired. The finish is all original but shows weather-check and fine-line crackle throughout. There are minor scuffs, scratches, nicks, and dings here and there throughout but none of it is obvious at a glance.

It comes with: It has an older chip case.
