1967 Guild F212 Jumbo 12-String Guitar
Overview: These Hoboken-made, '60s-era Guild 12-strings are among my favorite 12s these days. We've handled a lot of them here at the shop in the last few years and the F212 model from this time offers many things folks are seeking from a "folksinger's 12" -- they're punchy, loud, have a comfortable (mini-jumbo) body shape, look distinct from the curvier '70s Guilds, and are built lighter than later models of the same type and so they have a big, rich sound.
Tone: It's bright, clean, full, and balanced with a lot of carrying-power.
Feel: The neck has a medium-heft D shape and a flatter board radius and so these are not for folks wanting a slim, Taylor-like, modern playing experience. They are pretty quick for the time, however, when compared to a lot of mass-market 12s from the same decade. and into the '70s.
Interesting features: This is a pretty straight-up F212 model and has all of the nice little, understated decorative touches -- the nice pearloid headstock veneer, the big tortoise pickguard, the elegant 2-point bridge design, and a through-saddle look and load. Someone went ahead and installed their own fretboard inlay in the guitar, however, which looks great! He or she added their own four-leaf-clover motifs and then some addition decorative triangles at the 12th fret. Usually the fretboard on these is blank.
Repairs included: I tag-teamed a neck reset with Ancel and then he did the rest of the work save a little adjustment at the bridge. It got a level/dress of the frets, new bone saddle with full compensation, cleaning, and a setup. It's playing spot-on, now, and is fit for service.
