1999 Yamaha AEX-502 Semihollow Electric Guitar

Overview: This is the second time I'm selling one of these for a customer. They're excellent guitars -- easy-playing, with nice features, easy on the eyes, and with a classic sound. It's a bit of a Gibson-Fender-Gretsch mashup as it's got twin P90s and a Gibson-looking layout, a transparent orange finish that apes Gretsch, and a bolt-on neck with a profile similar to modern Fender Mexico models.

Tone: It's aggressive, midsy, punchy, and up-front. It's like a stereotypical P90 sound -- a good thing.

Feel: The neck is very similar to modern Fender Mexico necks with a medium C shape but has a milder board radius at 14" instead.

Interesting features: The gold hardware against the orange finish is very much "hillbilly cool" and the general aesthetic follows suit. The simplified master tone/volume and 3-way switch layout is easy-peasy and functional. The flamed maple veneer on the top gives it a little class and the solid alder body gives it a very familiar weight and look for those of us who've played Fenders for ages.

Repairs included: Ancel gave this a level/dress of the frets and a good setup and it's playing spot-on and ready to serve. In the photos the low E saddle is slightly forward of where it actually sits in-hand -- sorry about that, I'd taken shots before we had totally finished setting it up at that point.

Condition notes: It's quite clean throughout with only minor usewear here and there. The fretboard extension over the body ramped-up a bit when it arrived so Ancel had to level/dress the frets in that area down more than the rest of the fretboard. It does not pose playability issues but you may find that on the bass side, if you're digging-in hard past the body joint, you may get a hair of rattle.
