2012 Epiphone EJ-160E Acoustic/Electric Slope Dreadnought Guitar
Overview: I've worked on about half a dozen of these EJ-160Es and their owners have always had fond memories with them. This one looks like it didn't get much use, unfortunately, but that means it's nice and clean for the next owner! We spent some time getting this one dialed-in and playing spot-on and it's got the goods.
Tone: It's got a midsy, clean, balanced voice with a bit of that woody chunkiness to it.
Feel: The neck is modern and has a slim C, easy-peasy profile with an average, 12" board radius. The 15 frets free of the neck make chords up the neck feel a little faster than its 14-fret neighbors.
Interesting features: Well, of course, it has the John Lennon signature on the upper bout and then there's the magnetic pickup hidden near the fretboard extension. One needs to make use of monel or nickel-wound strings to get the most out of the pickup, though, and we've got it strung with monel at the moment.
Repairs included: Jose leveled/dressed the frets and set it up and I added a ground to the wiring under the bridge plate so the strings would ground correctly at the ball-ends. For some reason, very few factories think about this with acoustic guitars with magnetic pickups and it drives me nuts because they'll just buzz-buzz-buzz electronically without it. Anyhow, it's playing spot-on and ready to serve.
