2021 Taylor Big Baby Taylor 000-Size Guitar
Overview: I took this Big Baby in trade a while back and have been using it around the house ever since. I've come into another round of gear-moving in my own collection and so popped this one in the racks out in the shop for someone else to enjoy. These are 000-size guitars with a thinner depth even though they look like dreadnoughts from the front. They're built surprisingly-light and make great take-anywhere instruments as they sound and feel so much better than you would ever expect for their price point.
Tone: It's full, warm, and clean and will flatpick and fingerpick nicely. We've been running 48w-10 gauges on it and it would only sound bigger and better with heavier strings, if desired.
Feel: They feature a full 25 1/2" scale length and, despite the Taylor name, the necks feel more like '60s Fender profiles (C-shaped and with a steeper radius to the board) rather than the slim oval, wider nut, and flatter fretboards I expect from the usual Taylor build. It's a fast neck and cozy.
Interesting features: The top is solid spruce and the back and sides are ply mahogany. The board and bridge are proper ebony and, while the trim is very spare, it has a good, professional look about it. It's trim and tidy. The simple, Fender-ish neck joint makes it easy to adjust the neck angle as well for future setup needs -- though I've been playing this since Spring and haven't adjusted a thing on it through all of our weather changes.
Repairs included: A seam had sprung loose for about 3" on the back and I reglued that and then gave it a restring and setup. It's been playing spot-on ever since.
