1922 Weymann Style 25 Mandolute Mandolin

Overview: This is a consignor's mandolin that's been here for some time awaiting repair. It's a quite-clean example of a midrange Weymann mandolute as it has plain mahogany back and sides rather than the flamed maple back and sides with "violin" edging like on the fancier models. Once these are worked-on and dialed-in, they make excellent Celtic/old-time instruments. They're also beautifully-built which gives a heck of a lot of owner satisfaction.

Tone: It's got its own, signature, woody, warm, and clear voice that you don't really get from any other flatback-style mandolins that I know of.

Feel: The neck is a medium-heft, soft-V shape and has a flat fretboard. I find it quick but reassuringly solid.

Interesting features: The "pinched" neckblock and endblock areas with its "football-shaped" body (it's curvy in every direction) are both things that are hard to build and look gorgeous. The details are all restrained but clever and it's, simply-put, beautifully-built. This one is completely original, too, and crack-free save for a tiny 1/2" one on the upper bout near the pickguard that's repaired

Repairs included: Tim removed the fretboard extension and adjusted it to realign it with the main neck angle (these usually get "ski jump" as they age and this solved it), leveled/dressed the frets, refit the bridge, added side dots, and set it up. It plays spot-on and is ready to serve.
