1999 National Resolectric Solidbody Resonator Electric Guitar
Overview: When this guitar was built, this version of the model was basically brand-new. It even has a "prototype" date penciled-in internally under the resonator cone. Anyhow, it's dang clean -- in excellent shape and quite the fetching beaut with its flamed-maple top and deco styling. The intent of this model is to be a good plug-in solution for a reso-style player rather than a good acoustic-sounding resonator. It certainly does that, as you can hear in the video, and it looks good while doing it. The acoustic volume is damped compared to a proper acoustic-focused resonator but it's plenty loud-enough to hang-out with and enjoy unplugged.
Interesting features: It has two pickups -- a magnetic P90-style single coil at the neck and a piezo-style one at the bridge - with a 3-way switch and separate volume controls and a tone control for the electric pickup. A pair of 9V batteries (access through a back panel) supply the preamp with the power to do its thing. Interestingly, the guitar has a pretty dang long scale length (like an old Kay vs. an old National) and the bolt-on neck allows for shimming of the neck pocket to easily achieve different action heights for fingerpicking/strumming or slide setups. All of the parts and hardware are heavy-duty and well-made. It has a good, satin finish with a bit of a light "pebbly" texture to it, for lack of a better description. Those familiar with newer Nationals will know what I mean.
Repairs included: It just needed a quick setup and restring. I used an electric set with a wound G string as it's compensated for that at the saddle.
