1980s Simon & Patrick D-18-style Dreadnought Guitar

Update: I posted on this same guitar in June of 2025 but it's come back and so I've reposted with new photos, a video, and details added. As I said, then, "I received this in trade and my friend Michael picked it up from me today after fixing. He was after a "good open D guitar" and this one suited him well. He's a gear-shuffler so I expect it might be back someday, but I approve of his taking it for now." Too funny!

Overview: This is a particularly-early Simon & Patrick guitar with serial number 92 (so dating somewhere around 81-82, likely), made back when the brand was mixed-up (as it is now) in the expanding Godin-iverse of instruments (Seagull, Godin, and whatnot) but still finding their place in the world. For reference, the same group made LYS guitars around the same time and many of their other builds were proto-Seagulls wearing different brands.

This one, alternately, is a higher-quality instrument that borrows design elements from the Seagull line (bolt-on necks and somewhat stout bracing) but is otherwise very much a take on a '60s Martin D-18 -- including the body shape, materials (spruce over mahogany, solid), and details (red tortoise binding).

It also sounds like a good D-18 and it handles a lot like one, too, with a soft-V, medium-depth neck with 1 11/16" nut width (rather than the Seagull/Godin fascination with 1 13/16" nuts and whatnot). Suffice to say, it's a good guitar that's been played-in heavily and has the scars to show for it.

Repairs included: I gave it a neck reset, re-cleated old crack repairs where necessary, leveled and dressed the frets, fit a saddle, and set it up. It's playing spot-on and ready to serve.

It comes with: Unfortunately, I don't have an official case or gigbag for it, but if I have something to put it in at the time of sale I will do so.
