2012 KoAloha KSM-00 Soprano Koa Ukulele

Overview: As a big fan of Kamaka ukuleles, I am almost always a big fan of KoAloha ukuleles. They share a lot of the same tonal DNA but I think the KoAlohas tend to be a little thicker in the mids and lows (for a uke!) and have slightly more restrained highs with less of a sing-song chime thing going-on. To me, that's how this uke sounds as compared to a typical Kamaka soprano with about the same shape. That may be nonsense depending on your fingers, but that's how I perceive their response. I like both brands and both have a "classic koa island sound."

This uke is pretty-much as I describe above -- sweet and koa-airy but with a bit more sauce than straight-up sparkle. I like it a lot!

Repairs included: I just gave it a quick setup and a restring. It had black nylons on it which were mildly depressing -- the new D'Addario fluorocarbon is a lot prettier on it. It's playing spot-on and ready to go.
