c.1920 Oscar Schmidt Mahogany Soprano Ukulele

I've loaded up the photos for this uke because I love it that much!

This is a c.1920 (or late teens) all-mahogany soprano uke built by Oscar Schmidt out of Jersey City, NJ. It is entirely original except for the 12th fret, nut, and the tuner pegs (though the pegs are period and typical for OS ukes of this age). I'm very tempted to send my Regal back out into the world to hold onto this guy.

It's rope-bound on top and around the soundhole and the original bridge is simple and on the larger end, but very sturdy and efficient.

And the aging-in looks perfect! The finish is pretty good, too!

Rosewood fretboard -- new 12th fret, the rest is original. Nylgut strings.

New nut -- made from a scrap of maple. It'll age in looking like the color of the rope binding. Headstock is that nice lengthy "crown" shape found on OS ukes.

Bridge again.

Nice green/yellow label inside.

Beauty shot.

Back.

Notice that nice inlaid back stripe! Gotta love it! There are a number of dryness hairlines that have been glued up on the back of this uke.

Tuner detail.

The neck profile on this is a little thicker than comparable ukes -- but it feels nice and reassuring. Sort of like playing a wider mandolin neck.

Can't say enough about the classy rope binding on this!
