Clippings: 1917 Lyon & Healy Lakeside 11-String Guitar


Over at the Rose Street Guitars vintage catalog page, I happened upon the 1917 Lyon & Healy catalog... in it I found a catalog pic of their Lakeside 11-string guitar, which is visually quite similar to the rest of the L&H mid-range guitar line at the time... except of course more strings.

Conventional wisdom has held that these weirdo 11-string guitars were like a 12-string with a plain high E... but eh!!! Look at that pic! It's divided into 7 courses -- what the heck?! 4 octaved bass courses and 3 treble.

Does anyone know the answer to this mystery? If I had to guess I would imagine this suits the "Russian guitar" tuning of DGBDGBD which is related to the standard low-D open G tuning of DGDGBD. Or... it could just be a standard EADGBE guitar with an extra high G on the top...?

I HAVE THIS 11-STRING GUITAR AND THINK THAT KIND GUITAR WAS DESIGNED FROM MEXICAN POPULAR MUSIC, BUT I DONT KNOW THE AFINATION APROPIATE.

Jorge Guerra it's in Open G Tuning which is a Perfect Fourth below the English Guitar Open C Tuning plus a Low D Bass String so D, G, B, D, G, B, D.
