Clippings: 1898 Grunewald 10-String "Harp" Guitar

Click the pic to get it larger. This is a clipping from an 1898 Music Trade Review issue and gives a little back-story on these peculiar 10-strings (this one called a "Harp Guitar" for its tone) one sometimes sees from around that time. Why they didn't just go to the full 12 is beyond me -- sometimes you see these strung with single plain strings (B&E) and sometimes with single bass strings (E&A). Either way, I'll bet on those old ladder-braced bodies these guitars would give the '20s Oscar Schmidt 12 strings a run for their money.
