c.1925 Reed Soprano Ukulele
This is a customer's uke, but happens to be one I sold a while back but never got a photoshoot in for. It's made entirely of flamed, beautiful koa, with a thin ebony fretboard with MOP dots. It's all original save for new Grover pegs, to boot.
Workmanship is excellent and the body is bound top and back in black celluloid. Intonation is spot on and it feels great to play, like a good-quality Washburn or Martin.

There's that ebony fretboard. Good quality ebony, too... almost feels as if there's no grain in it at all.

"Reed" label.
Again, lovely wood. I'd be curious to know if anyone knows who actually made these. I've always thought "Reed" was a distributor name, when I've seen it on other instruments. No matter where it came from, it's a good, very loud, excellent-playing uke.

Ferry & Co.'s New Ukuleles
CHICAGO, III., May 24.—Ferry & Co., makers of the Instant player for Stringed instruments, 3222-24 North Halsted street, this city, announce
the addition of a new line of Ukuleles. The company announces this new line of standardized Ukuleles after many months of Preparation during which the styles have been designed with distinctive features, new machinery installed in the factory and other details connected with a large production which is to be maintained to meet the increasing demand. It is announced that production is now well under way and first shipments have already been made.
CHICAGO, III., May 17.—The Reed Musical Instrument Co., 1306 Belmont avenue, has recently been incorporated to manufacture a line
of ukuleles. The company is headed by James F. Reed, inventor of the Instant Noteless Player, who has been associated for the past three years with Ferry & Co., Chicago, and is well known to the musical merchandise trade.
Mr. Reed announces that the company has leased the entire second floor of the large factory located on Belmont avenue, which has been remodeled and machinery installed.
