c.1965 Decca by Teisco Electric Tele Look Guitar

I do have a thing for old Japanese electric guitars... and this one's pretty cool as far as they're concerned. It was probably made by Teisco, has a mahogany neck, but the body is some sort of lamination of maybe Japanese ash or something similar?

Either way, the feel and tone is remarkably similar to a 1950s Kay semi-hollow single-pickup electric I used to use "back in the day." Really cool, sort of dry on the bass, but rich bluesy treble. This thing sounds really cool overdriven a bit for that warm tubey sound.

Zero fret, rosewood fretboard, big old "string tree" bar... unglamorous tuners but after servicing they work just fine.

Faux-MOP dots. I've given the neck a fret dress so it plays totally smooth, too.

Fun Tele-ish body... I like the 50s-style tailpiece/tailpiece-cover look. The white plastic control box is, I think, a replacement for the original, as it appears to have been cut off the back of a sign (when you open it up you see some advertising on the back).

Gotta love that sunburst. Finish is pretty good -- a little worn right next to the neck-side strap hook, but really not bad at all.

I have the same exact guitar. My grandma baught it used and gave it to my brothers and I back around 1969 or 70. fun to see some history about it. It's managed to survive me and my brothers and now my kids are having fun with it over 40 years later. it still has the made in japan sticker on it. Thank you for posting
