Workshop: Happy Banjo

Well, here's another happy new skin banjo head a-drying by the fire. This is a c.1910 Lange-made 5-string that I'm overhauling for a customer. Note the pretty pearl inlays down the neck. I've already cleaned the 'jo up and given it a fret level/dress.

These may look like old-style 1:1 violin pegs but they're actually those newfangled Pegheds 4:1 planetary tuners. While I'm not overexcited about the installation (they're threaded into a tapered hole which means tightening them during install would be tricky for an amateur) they're well designed. I'll of course give a report once this 'jo is strung up -- which should be tomorrow.
