c.1926 Vega Whyte Laydie Tenor Banjo

This Whyte Laydie tenor 'jo is owned by a customer of mine who's big into the Celtic scene around here. She plays this banjo like mad and before it came to the workshop she'd worn a hole through her (rather old) Fiberskyn II head. So, while it was getting that replaced (this time with a new Elite Fiberskyn style from stewMac) I also gave it a light fret dress and set it up.

Needless to say, she plays in GDAE tuning and this sounds great for it!

 

 

While the banjo mostly looks original, there's one replacement hook, the tailpiece is unoriginal, and the peghead appears to have been refinished at the least. The Five-Star pegs are also newer, but are using the old ivoroid buttons to maintan the classic look.

Good adjustable Waverly tailpiece.

Whyte Laydies are classy instruments -- good build, great tonering, plus the ever-sweet full bracket band look.

Lots of hooks!

The serial number places this at 1926.

Those Five-Star pegs sure look right on this guy.
