c.1960 Martin Style 1 Soprano Ukulele
This is a customer's cute little Martin uke and it dates probably to around 1955-60. It has the later-style tortoise binding and the back and sides are full of cracks, some of which I've reglued and cleated. Other work included a light fret level/dress, new bone nut to replace the missing original, cleaning, and setup. The bridge saddle needed slight shaving but no replacement (thankfully).
It's a sweet old uke and has the typically-gorgeous Martin tone with that bell-like clarity I expect from these guys. A good find!
I think the tortoise binding looks handsome on these.
Simple rosette. Yes, it's all-mahogany save the rosewood board.
Yeah, I'm a fan of micro-dots.
There's a split that's all the way down the treble side (on the side) and a longish hairline crack on the back. All have been made stable. There was a bit of old gluing work that was a bit sloppy but workmanly, here and there.
The owner of this found it at an auction, locally, and I was more than happy to bring it back to the land of the living!
