Workshop Note #3

Ah, the joy of being woken at 3:45 AM to the phone-bound sound of someone preparing to ask me about the value of their old Silvertone. Really? The "best" bit is that it's not the first, second, third, or fourth time this has happened... and some of these folks are living on EST, too.

3:45AM EST is universally the worst time for making phone calls to anyone in North America. Even if you live in California that would make it 12:45AM. But who am I to argue with the madness of total strangers, that's why god invented the mute ringer button.

Jake, do what I do at bedtime every night: I TURN OFF MY PHONE. Simple. If there's a death in the middle of the night, even in my family, there's nothing I can do about it and I figure they will still be dead in the morning when I turn my phone back on. A night's sleep is a valuable thing and it shouldn't be interrupted by fools asking idle questions.

Amahl: I will see if I can set the ringer to mute for the night -- but due to our mountain(hill?)-life we're stuck on landlines.

Back when we had a land line (way back in the late 20th Century) I would unplug it from the wall each night and plug it in again in the morning...if I remembered to, hehehe.
