Local Flavor: Finally Fall

This year has been hot and I thought it'd never drift into the cool, wet, grey season that we usually have this time of year. I remember thinking -- it's October 24th and 70 degrees! It has cooled, however, and now the leaves are almost all down and the rain and mist has settled in the mountains for good.

The family did get a nice walk up on Mount Cushman, though, on Monday. There's a dirt access road that meanders through the woods until you can find a path into what we call the "fairy woods." That's a place in the pines that's almost entirely covered in moss-on-stones.
