Local Flavor: Blueberry Hill

Every year the family goes up to Blueberry Hill in the Moosalamoo National Forest area and makes a few hauls of wild blueberries. The cover was thick this time and in many spots one could just kneel down and fill a bin without having to wander too much.

It's hard not to overstate how much we appreciate having something like this so close. The Forest Service burns-off the patch each year so it regrows in a state fit for the locals to gather blueberries and blackberries through autumn -- and also in a state fit for supplying endless amounts of critters plenty of chow.

Both our kids are absolute blueberry fiends. As I'm typing this, sneaky little Elsa is burrowing-into a container of them in the fridge.

Hope those blues taste as good as they look.

They're the sweetest, most fragrant blueberries I've ever had!
