2017 Hamer Special Jr electric guitar w/Lollar P90
This Hamer is clearly a take on the double-cut LP Jr, though it reminds me a lot of a Fender Esquire, really, in the heft and full-slab feel of the body. Soundwise it's very LP Jr, however, because there's a nice Lollar P90 from 2018 under the hood rather than the stock Hamer pickup. It's a modern, bright, direct, snarly sound full-on, but with the tone rolled-off just a hair, it gets a bit more of that '50s P90 mwah-vibe. Keep in mind that in the clip, the amp used is quite bright.
It's in for consignment and aside from the thick, glossy, Asian-import-style finish, I'm impressed with the handling -- the neck is fast and comfortable, the neck is set instead of bolted, and the hardware feels sturdy enough that I wouldn't think twice about using it at a show.
Work included: a mild cleaning, restring with 46w-10 gauges, and a setup. It plays bang-on with 1/16" overall action at the 12th fret. The neck is straight and the truss rod works as-intended.
Scale length: 24 3/4"
Nut width: 1 5/8"
String spacing at nut: 1 3/8"
String spacing at bridge: 2"
Body length: 16"
Lower bout width: 13"
Upper bout width: 19 1/8"
Side depth at endpin: 1 3/4"
Body wood: solid mahogany
Fretboard: rosewood
Bridge: TOM-style adjustable
Neck feel: slim C rear shaped, 12" radius board
Condition notes: there are two bigger dings/bumps on the lower-bout, treble-side, top edge where the finish has been chipped-off down to the sealer coat. Otherwise, the guitar is basically "shopworn" and shows only minor usewear. The frets are essentially untouched and show only the tiniest wear. In fact, I'm the one who took the protective sealer film/plastic wrap off of the truss rod cover and rear electronics cover.
Nice-looking mahogany in that body, huh?
