Jumble Sale: 1960s Claricon Japanese-made ~10w Stereo Tube Amplifier

Need something tube to power your living-room stereo? This guy has RCA-ins for tuner/hifi or phono inputs for your turntable.

It was clean inside when it came in but I sprayed-out the tube sockets and pots and fired it up and hey presto! ...it works like a charm. One one pair of speakers I noticed an "idle hum" without signal going into it but on another pair of speakers (and plugged into a different socket in a different room) it had no noise. I imagine just like any other tube appliance -- the cleanliness of your electrical socket wiring will probably influence this.

Anyhow, it's all good to go and has a complement of original Hitachi tubes -- including a 12AX7 in the preamp slot. The casing is all metal and the knobs are, too. It has a smooth sound that gets nice, clean, sparkly treble response with the "tone knob" cranked-up.

I played a bit of Iron & Wine and Calexico on it and it faithfully did the job.
