Workshop: Fret Slot Recut on a Fretboard Extension

I was installing fretwire with a longer tang (the bit that sticks into the fretboard) on this LG-2, so I just wanted to share my tip for deepening slots over the extension to accept longer wire. I simply cut the slot straight down into the wood rather than try to radius the slot like the top of the fretboard like I'd do on the actual neck part of the board.

I use my usual Japanese-style (cuts on the pull) StewMac slot saw and cover the shoulders with 1/32" thick plywood scraps. I've also used aluminum sheeting taped to the top when the fretboards are lower to the top (like on many old parlor guitars from the late 1800s).
