Workshop: Hilarious Neck Shims

I was talking to my buddy Steve on the phone about his Martin D12-20 and its progress and I mentioned that I was resetting the neck. He said, "huh?" ...because the neck angle was OK but not great when he bought it and sent it in. The saddle would've had to be low, but it might've worked for a while... I'd decided I'd rather stick a nice tall saddle on there and give him the next many decades' of use instead.

As I was talking to him and heating the neck, the neck popped off the body in 5 minutes (wha??) and... hah hah hee hee, well, there's a good reason to reset the neck, anyway -- someone had "reset" it using business cards as shims to tighten-up the joint. No wonder the angle was a bit off...

Was the business card for discount guitar repair services?

It actually read, "Michael Mulkern, Guitar Repair, ALL SALES FINAL."
