1960s/2020 Fender/Partscaster Jaguar Electric Guitar

This surfy little friend is a mix of a pre-CBS (clay dots) Duo Sonic neck with a very short scale (22 1/2") mated to a modern MJT relic/aged body in surf green and modern (lightly-aged) hardware and pickups. Its owner had me service the neck (fret level/dress, etc.) and then put it all together and wire it up for him.

The pickups are Creamery P90-in-Jag construction and have a Jag-ish sound, though more midsy and "pocketed" in tone. It's hard to describe -- they peak in a narrow band which lets them cut like crazy, but they still have a lot of that bell-like Jag-sound to them when played clean.

As for the hardware -- the neck has its original Kluson Deluxe tuners which I tidied-up (the housings were getting loose against the plates) and lubed. It also has its original nut. On the body, it has an "aged" mint green pickguard, Japanese Jazzmaster-style whammy, Mastery bridge, and Fender USA control plates. These plates are Johnny Marr-style, in a sense.

There's a slider 4-way switch on the treble shoulder which gives the normal 3-way options plus a "both in series" option, which is nice for chunky chordal play or saturated lead work. The upper switch is just a single slider and is a "bright" switch. In the "up" (towards neck) position the tone and volume pots are bypassed which let the pickups go straight to the jack. This gives more high-end, bite, and a tad more volume when engaged. It also lets you set the "down" position (vol/tone engaged) with the controls rolled-off to a different sort of sound -- so in operation like a stripped-down Jag "rhythm" circuit.

Because of the extra-short scale length, I had to move the mounting holes for the bridge just a little aft, but fortunately that mod is mostly-hidden by the bridge itself. The neck angle also needed to be shimmed-back a bit and due to the reduced scale and standard tuning, I strung it with 54w-12 gauges, plain G. The Mastery bridge does not allow a wound G (with intonation good), so it'll have to stick to a thicker-gauged plain G. The strings on it at the moment are semi-flattened, but I imagine with normal roundwound strings this thing would zip and sizzle a bit more. The tone right now is very '60s surfy due to the strings on it.

Someone varnished the neck all over a long while ago to cover-up wear and tear. Its original nitro finish is trapped underneath, however.
