Local Flavor: More Spring Stirrings

Oh my gosh -- last week was excruciating and non-stop for me. I couldn't be more thankful when Sunday and Monday rolled-around and I had an excuse to relax a little bit and get out for some walks with the family.

The flowers above are bloodroot and at one of our walks (near the Robert Frost homestead up in Ripton) they were carpeting the fields and forest floor.

I've been lazy, lately, and only bringing my phone on walks -- but I'm not going to argue with the snapshot capabilities. It's nice to have a wide-angle lens on hand from time to time.

I love the tall pines on this trail -- they always whoosh so perfectly in the breeze when you're in them... and that sun-baked pine-needle smell... mmm...

A friend of ours owns the property where this pretty stream is located.

Oh, man, are the pussy willows glorious right now...

For anyone who's not an arborist, that's a mature saguaro cactus in the last photo. This amazing plant can live for up to 200 years and is commonly found in the Sonoran Desert, upstate Vermont and Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner cartoons.

You've left those guitars too close to the heater again -- it's smoking up and you're not seeing clearly, my friend... :D
