1988 Greco RG-95 (Rickenbacker 360/12 Clone) 12-String Electric Guitar

This is a customer's cool old Greco from '88 and -- clearly -- it apes a Rickenbacker 360/12 (with the pointy horns) really, really well. The main differences are the finish type on the body, lack of stereo wiring, and only a single (rather than double, like on Ricks) truss rod. Otherwise it's very Rick-ish with a big, thick fretboard, triangular inlays, x-braced hollowbody/thinline build, 6 adjustable saddles, and single-coil pickups.

The pickups themselves are actually saucier, to my ear, than the originals. They're a little more DynaSonic-like and less thin -- but still have "that sound" in spades and even some extra jangle and bite.

Anyhow, this was just in for a glorified setup and it's now playing super-slinky and is running "Jake gauges" for electric 12-string. From the bottom those are: 20w/46w, 15/36w, 10/26w, 8/20w, 13/13, 9/9.

I don't know about you guys, but now I'm keeping my eyes peeled for this (or its 6-string sibling) model.

Repairs included: fret level/dress, cleaning, restring, saddle compensation, etc.

Did not know these existed! Rickenbacker is
super hardcore about shutting down copycats.

The strings should be switched around like on a Ric 12 string .Meaning, the low E string will be struck first, then the unison string. This gives it that jangly Ricky sound.

Ricky: well, the reverse is true -- bass-first in the Rick format gives it a LESS-jangly tone as the bass strings are less insistent and the octave strings more up-front on the downstroke. I like it both ways. It's actually nice to hear a Rick clone in the "normal" format because it sounds, frankly, better to my ears. More like a normal 12-string...
