1920s Weissenborn Style 1 Hawaiian Guitar
This well-traveled beaut is a customer's instrument (he's a lefty) and it was in for crack and seam repairs and re-repairs and a general going-over. While (apparently) mostly original throughout, the top had been half-sanded down at some point and discolored through grime and damp -- it's fairly apparent when comparing to the back and sides -- but it does give it a rustic, friendly look that invites you to pick it up and play.
The Style 1 Weissenborns like this guy are all drastically-plain instruments with only the most minor of details added (fretboard dots, a few rings for the rosette), but they're built just like the fancier models. This one has solid koa throughout its build and has an x-braced top. This is one of the "thin body" models and it's very shallow which gives it a fast, responsive tone. It's got the "hollow neck" design which is an extension of the body, too.
I was pleased to have this in the shop as it's been a few years since I saw my last Weissenborn Hawaiian in for a setup. These are lovely guitars. I still regret selling my 1920s Oscar Schmidt-made "Hilo" knockoff years ago...
