1980s Lutherie Artistique 4/4 Violin
The only markings on this instrument are "Lutherie Artistique" and a French "Made in China" script under it. I originally thought this was a more-recent instrument because it's very clean but the owner told me it's actually an '80s instrument. How about that?
It's currently setup in "classical" fashion and sounds round and clean while also having good volume. It's well-built and "handles" like a quality instrument should. The top is solid spruce and the back and sides are solid, flamed maple. I'm assuming it's an Asian maple species of some sort because it has the same grain-look as a lot of the '50s-era Suzuki (Japanese) violins I've worked-on -- almost a "quilted mahogany" look. The fittings are all ebony save a molded, 4-fine-tuner tailpiece.
It's ready to go -- all I had to do was tune it up and hang it out on the rack. If you prefer a fiddle-style setup (strings lower to the fingerboard), let me know and I'll adjust accordingly.
