1995 Peavey Fury Fretless Electric Bass Conversion

This '95 Peavey (made in USA) was modified by its owner into a fretless (he did a great job) and at the same time he added a 3-way switch and G&L bridge pickup to make it a P/J. A set of flatwound strings completed the conversion into this lovely beast at present.

He brought it in for trade/consignment and I'm probably going to snag this for myself because it's addicting and cool in a neglected old car kind-of way. When it arrived there was a weird texture all over the surface and red inky paint had been applied in stripes and stars all over the place. It was a neat look but it was... very... personal!

The weird texture (in two lines making a "V" on the front of the bass) looks like it was some sort of chemical muck-up residue from tape put on it back in the day when whatever teenager who owned it also had added some duct tape to the side and drawn a cyclops on the back. I had to scrap all that stuff off and as a result -- even though the finish was scratched-up and worn throughout -- it got even more scratched-up in the surface coat where I removed the gunk. I then scrubbed-off as much of the inky paint as I could which went a lot faster.

After that all it needed was a quick setup and it was playing spot-on and a lot faster.

Repairs included: cleaning, setup, replacement knobs (Dakaware-style).

Condition notes: it has tons of wear and tear to the finish -- minor/medium scratching throughout, wiped-out drawings on the back, chips on the edges, and lots of scratching/wear/some discoloration to the pickguard. The bridge pickup is unoriginal but welcome! It's been converted to fretless and the job was very good. Knobs are replacements but the wiring harness appears to be original save the 3-way switch.

It comes with: a gigbag.
