2018 McSpadden 4FTWW Teardrop Mountain Dulcimer
McSpadden to me is the first name that comes to mind when someone's looking for a practical, functional, good-sounding, American-made mountain dulcimer. They're well-built, simple, look nice, and handle well. I never have trouble with them as they age, either. They've figured-out how to make a good instrument at a good cost and boy have they made a ton of them.
This one is a pretty traditional "teardrop" dulcimer shape, soild walnut throughout, and it features a longish scale, too, for extra ring, sustain, and overtone prettiness. These newer McSpaddens feature guitar-style headstock shapes and tuners which -- surprise-surprise! -- fit nicely into guitar wall-hang mounts. That's a huge plus both in terms of storage and tuning stability as far as I'm concerned.
This one arrived almost perfect and only shows a little handling wear. After a quick setup and some compensation adjustments at the saddle, it was ready to hang-out in the shop.
