Local Flavor: Cliff Hike

There's a great, short hike nearby at the top of Brandon Gap and I tricked the family into doing it on Saturday. Despite its shortness, it's a very steep path up but it goes through gorgeous, fairyland scenery with (essentially) stone staircases and stands of short birches and a constant, lovely breeze.

Bonnie was decked-out like she was in one of our kids' fantasy roleplaying games that day.

"Fortune-teller, get your fortunes read! Fortune-teller...!"

A little before that we were pondering these mudprints.

At the top is, of course, a glorious view. In fall, with the leaves off the trees, you can almost get a 360 from up here. Click the above to see it full-size.

The descent is brutal on the knees but it's definitely gorgeous. Oona was ranging so far ahead I barely had any snapshots of her, but that's Big Sis for ya!

"Out of the shadows, the hobbits peeped, gazing back down the slope: little furtive figures that in the dim light looked like elf-children in the deeps of time peering out of the Wild Wood in wonder at their first Dawn."
