2006 Taylor T5 Custom Acoustic/Electric Guitar

Update 2026: My friend Mervyn bought this a few years ago (2023) but has since had to move down to narrower guitars to help his right arm after an injury. This got some use but not a whole ton and it arrived here back for sale just the same as it left. I've given it a restring and mild setup. Now back to the original post...

I have a number of Taylor T5 models that come in for setup each year, but this is the first one I've had in with the super-rare "twin humbucker" setup. A second (neck) magnetic pickup replaces the normal in-body piezo, though the switching is still a 5-way affair because the two magnetic pickups that are visible also interact with an under-fretboard-mounted humbucker that has more of an "acoustic" sound.

Apparently, this model was only made this way in 2006 and it was also the only year a variety of metallic finishes were sprayed. I've seen this same model in Aztec Gold as well as this cool, mediterranean blue metallic sort-of color. It looks fantastic in person -- with a bit of the look of a hammered finish on the neck despite it being smooth and slick.

I only had to do a "glorified setup" on it to get it playing its best as it arrived almost perfectly setup to begin-with. Apologies for the long video demo -- there were a whole bunch of tones to sort through between the control pots and the pickup selector.

Repairs included: very light fret level/dress and setup.

  • Body wood: solid spruce top, mahogany body
  • Bridge: ebony
  • Fretboard: ebony
  • Neck wood: mahogany
  • Pickups: 2x humbucker lipstick-type, 1x under-fretboard "acoustic" humbucker
  • Action height at 12th fret: 1/16" overall (fast)
  • String gauges: feels like 50w-11 or similar
  • Neck shape: slim C
  • Board radius: 14"
  • Truss rod: adjustable
  • Neck relief: straight
  • Fret style: medium-modern
  • Scale length: 24 7/8"
  • Nut width: 1 11/16"
  • Body width: 16"

Condition notes: it's very clean with only very minor wear to the finish here and there throughout. I'm not sure if the locking, Ratio tuners (they all tune-up at the same speed) are original but they are nice to have.

It comes with: its original hard case. The top has some scuffs but overall it's in great shape.
