2020s Gold Tone Cripple Creek Resonator Tenor Banjo
I got this Cripple Creek tenor banjo (normal "long" scale with 19 frets -- not the "Irish" version) in trade the other day. The previous owner simply never played it so it's basically brand-new. It even has a nice hard TKL case with it as well.
It's got a good, brassy, poppy, direct sort-of sound to it. After a setup, it's playing spot-on and currently strung for Celtic GDAE -- octave mandolin -- tuning. The neck is almost Gibson-like in that it's quick, slim, and easy to get around on. I find melody playing or chord-melody/chop-chord playing interchangeably easy. I did replace the original bridge with a nice, two-foot, vintage-style bridge with better string spacing.
The instrument itself is rather simple. It has a multi-ply maple rim, simple "hoop" tonering, and an open-window resonator style.
Repairs included: a good setup and minor adjustments.
