1965 Danelectro Convertible Acoustic/Electric Guitar
Meet Mr. Jesse! He picked-up this Danelectro Convertible from me before I even had a chance to snag pics of it. I was planning to keep this one for myself but I had it out in the shop that morning as I'd been picking on it before the shop opened. He was so enthralled that I had to let it go!
The short of the story on this one is I bought it off of a friend of a friend and it was in a bit of a sad state -- warped/curvy top, seams let loose on the top/sides in many places, frets needing work, and a big hole punched in the top where the original volume knob should have been.
I changed a lot with it -- adding a 1/2" dowel through the center of the body to connect the neck block to the endblock to stabilize it for starters. Next I reglued the bum seams and filled both the damaged volume pot area and the old pickup routs for the lipstick magnetic pickup that used to be in the soundhole. After that I leveled/dressed the frets, set the neck angle, replaced the original bridge with a same-period, compensated, Harmony archtop-style bridge, and set it all up. I fit a K&K acoustic pickup and simple volume control and jack wiring harness.
All this made it into a neat couch-potato strum buddy with the distinct advantage of then being able to plug-in and rock as a "true acoustic electric" at volume. It doesn't hurt that it's a nice player, too.
Strings are 46w-10 acoustic strings with a wound G.
