1924 Johann Adolf Ficker "Stainer" 4/4 Violin
Johann Adolf Ficker of Markneukirchen was a well-known maker and some of the asking prices for the work of his shop and family's instruments can get a little silly on the web. Suffice to say, this is a quality instrument with a good, solid build and a clean, sweet, "easy" tone and good volume. It has some wear and tear to the finish here and there but anyone who picks this up can immediately tell it's a nicely-made instrument. It even has an odd "Stainer" mark at the back of the heel as if it were going to be sold as a Stainer copy in an importer's catalog.
Andy did all the work that was needed on it (which was not much, really) and it's now playing spot-on and sounds excellent. The neck angle is good, the top has decently-tight grain to the spruce, and the back and sides have pretty, figured maple.
Repairs included: minor seam work, setup work, bridge fitting and post adjustments, new tailpiece, etc...
